@the1andonlyMizMoon I actually didn't think about it that way, but its true for the most part. If I hear about a banned book, I definitely want to take a look at it but that might just be because of all the Vonnegut I've read and the perspective he's taught me, the average person would not. Not to say I'm an above average person, I've just had the fortune of finding Vonnegut early in my life and he's taught me many things. RIP Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

Unfortunately, most people don't read anymore. A banned movie or album will make a huge profit, but a banned book will just shrivel up and die.

You all need to read Joyce Carol Oates', "On Boxing"...Even if you hate the sport of boxing, you will absolutely love this book. She's an amazing writer.

RIP KV! When books or movies, etc. are censored or burned it makes them infamous. If local politicians or a schoolboard banned a book, I would want to run out and get a copy to see what all the fuss was about. These fools draw more attention to what they're trying to "save" us from by announcing it.

She was responding to the initial question, which was concerned with book burning a la Fahrenheit 451 in the present. With that in mind, censorship due to obscenity is very relevant.He made his point. She wasn't disagreeing with him. He doesn't need her to further his point. She was making her own.

The other Author completely missed Kurt Vonnegut's point: it isn't censorship he was talking about, it's the fact he was free of it because he couldn't bite the government; he was simply not effective or loud enough as a voice against the Powers that were at this time in 2006. He's on the ball 100%, Joyce Carol Oates seems to be preoccupied with missing the point that the censorship isn't even needed now - you can't hurt politicians when they're accepted to be corrupt by those who voted for 'em
