Watching JCO speak right after Vonnegut is almost comically sad. She just sucks at everything.

TheEccentricHippie
lolwut.

This is cool. Ms. Oates is a very bright person.

Oates isn't talking about anything. It's really very disappointing when you compare it with the sharp volley of insights you from Vonnegut.

joejohn1423
I definitely think that's just your problem

Isn't everybody? If they're honest?

unholychunk
Kurt Vonnegut would have told every female to write down all there wet dreams. because it could one day sell millions and make your rich and famous.

Hugo411
Let 's get to the Big Stuff like what do they think of the TWILIGHT books?

sansdeity420
the world is depressing. thats the only 'reason' anyone needs to see the world realistically

ljpelicano
what was that book? (cut out) hahahahahaha

Marcus Ranum
- the question would be whether he had a REASON to be depressed...

lizziemae122000
I like JCO's writing, but this is the first time I've seen her speak or interviewed. Something about the way she reacts and comments makes me uncomfortable...

halflifeproductionz
man after reading his bio i see why he has this pessimistic outlook on the world.

In my book, having superior tastes doesn't make you a hipster(but thank you for noticing my superior tastes.)Blindly following the hip crowds without any source of sincerity does. The douches here talking smack about about an author they have no knowledge of is a clear case of "Hipster Lemmings"Kurt Vonnegut has been deemed hip by the trendy hipster masses. Though I'm willing to bet a significant number of hipsters here talking smack and championing Vonnegut haven't read him.

zphillipps
check out my page to see a video of Kurt Vonnegut reading Breakfast of Champions!!

crouchisarobot
ah, i see you just proved to all the hipsters that you are different from them with your superior taste in literature. how very unhipster of you.

spiritscar
Trendy hipster douchebags! Who are masquerading as cultured and literate because someone told you Kurt Vonenegut was was a hipster icon. If you knew anything at all about literature, you 'd know Joyce carol Oates is one of the greatest authors of the 20th century, and one of greatest authors alive. DIE hipster scum, DIE!

marioismyhomie
So it goes.

I actually didn't think about it that way, but its true for the most part. If I hear about a banned book, I definitely want to take a look at it but that might just be because of all the Vonnegut I've read and the perspective he's taught me, the average person would not. Not to say I'm an above average person, I've just had the fortune of finding Vonnegut early in my life and he's taught me many things. RIP Kurt Vonnegut Jr.

the1andonlyMizMoon
Unfortunately, most people don't read anymore. A banned movie or album will make a huge profit, but a banned book will just shrivel up and die.

RockyBalboa211
God bless both of them! They are wonderful writers!
