The Belle Star Story

Review BLU-RAY BOX SET INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING FILMS:

LOVE & ANARCHY: In pre-World War II Italy, the employees of a popular Roman bordello realize that a new arrival (Giancarlo Giannini, Hannibal, Casino Royale) is planning to assassinate Mussolini. When one of the girls (Lina Polito, All Screwed Up) falls in love with the man, she's torn between saving him and saving her country. This is the film that put Italian director Lina Wertmueller (Swept Away) on the map of world cinema. Giannini won a Best Actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for his portrayal.

THE SEDUCTION ON MIMI: Voting against the Mafia in what he thinks is a secret ballot costs Sicilian laborer Mimi (Giancarlo Giannini, Man on Fire, Quantum of Solace) his livelihood in Lina Wertmuller's (Swept Away) dark comedy. He leaves his wife, flees to Turin and romances a Communist organizer (Mariangela Melato, Swept Away, Flash Gordon) -- but he just can't shake the Mafia. When they lure Mimi back to Sicily with a better job, he must keep his lover -- and love child -- under wraps. That's when his wife announces she's pregnant.

ALL SCREWED UP: All Screwed Up is the exuberantly funny tale about the often tragic adventures of a group of young immigrants who have come to Milan to make their fortunes. In addition to Adelina and Carletto, there are Gigi, who drifts into a life of petty crimes, Isotta, who becomes a prostitute, and Sante and Mariuccia, who marry in bliss and, in two years, are something less than blessed with seven children (one set of twins followed by quintuplets). They all soon discover that Milan is a town where everything is in its place but nothing is in order.
The Sacketts

Review A snooty socialite is stranded on a Mediterranean island with a communist sailor.
Love and Anarchy (English Subtitled)

Review Lizzy (Candice Bergen), a liberated American photographer, falls for narrow-minded journalist Paolo (Giancarlo Giannini). Then finds she can't live with him or without him. Bergen (Murphy Brown) and Giannini (Seven Beauties) take both comic and fierce battle stations in this colorful excursion into the male/female combat zone. So what if the world, as we learn from the TV in Lizzy and Paolo's luxurious apartment, is crashing around their ears; this is WAR!
Writer/director Lina Wertmuller relied on spontaneity and improvisation in making ...A Night Full of Rain, her first film in English.
Giannini, star of Wertmuller's groundbreaking Swept Away and Seven Beauties, was familiar with the technique, Bergen wasn't. But it worked splendidly. "Bergen gives one of the warmest and most characterful performances of her career," the Los Angeles Times hailed. When it rains, this film's two stars pour it on!

The Seduction Of Mimi (English Subtitled)

Review Nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Director, Seven Beauties stars Giancarlo Giannini (Swept Away) as Pasqualino Frafuso, known in Naples, Italy as "Pasqualino Seven Beauties". A petty thief who lives off of the profits of his seven sisters while claiming to protect their honor at any cost, Pasqualino kills the pimp who made his sister a prostitute, chops up his body and mails the pieces to different locations across the country. He is then arrested and later sent to fight in the army after committing sexual assault. The Germans capture him and he gets sent to a concentration camp where he plots to make his escape by attempting to seduce a German officer.
The Night Porter

Review Summer Night is Lina Wertmu ller s outrageous, and outrageously funny, response to her own Swept Away, updated with the politics and conspicuous consumption of the 1980s. Mariangela Melato (Swept Away) stars as Signora Bolk, a self-made tycoon interested in ecological preservation. She is fed up with the terrorists who poach Italy s rich beauty, and as part of a crazy retaliation scheme she hires a former CIA agent to abduct the number one violator, Giuseppe Beppe Catania (Michele Placido). Catania is taken to her villa on a private island where he insists that as a man, he cannot go without sex. She relents and hires two prostitutes to pleasure him. Blindfolded and chained, Beppe realizes that the third woman is none other than the woman who kidnapped him and agrees to pay the $100 million but only with a twist.
